Shopfronts have always been one of the most frequently replaced parts of town buildings, as on any modern High Street. Like many towns, Burford therefore has few early examples, despite its rich variety of domestic fronts. The earliest shopfront to survive is the important 18th century example at 124 High Street, which is an apothecary's shop dating to about 1734. Inside there are still the drawers and fitments of this period.
